Research-led teaching and learning This month, I have found defining research-led teaching and learning quite tricky as there seem to be a few interpretations of what it means in HE. Conversely, integrating research and teaching can be immensely rewarding for academics.
I gave a lecture in the Textile Museum on my design practice, which is described as Making Modern Day Family Heirlooms , and my research, which for the past 20 years has been focussed on how to be a commercial sustainable textile designer. After the lecture, I facilitated a workshop, Personalised Mending , also in the Textile Museum.

The Students’ Association Liberation Campaigns have been leading these conversations for years, and have sometimes been met with huge criticism. Research shows that there is a national BME attainment gap; that marginalised groups experience a “leaky pipeline” at different levels throughout University.
However, we all found our supervisors supportive which was very significant in developing our research skills in our topic area. We also loved the peer support from the postgraduate nursing students in particular as well as other doctoral students in the whole school.
Learn and Echo 360 are just two of the main areas that have built-in analytics tools for staff to use, holding a huge amount of data at a course and individual student level. This summer, I have interned in the School of Health in Social Science to research learning analytics and find out how it can be useful to the School.
Benefits of using open access resources in teaching There are many reasons engaging with OA content is beneficial across all aspects of higher education. Open access publishing is a key way for professionals to engage with valuable research and theory.
Sarah was keen to co-lead the review to gain some research experience during her undergraduate studies. She also assisted during the analysis process to ensure the results were relevant to the student community. She was involved at each stage, from searching and screening studies, to undertaking quality assessment and extracting data.
