It is a privilege, and it is fun, to teach clinical veterinary medicine to final year Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S) students.
First, it smooths new graduates’ transitions into the workforce, equipping them with skills that position them for employment and enable workplace advancement. Additionally, this strategy appeals to career-focused enrolees, bolstering recruitment and retention.
We do have a small subset of students who pursue a law degree – many explore patent law and careers that combine STEM and law. Within CAPD there is an advisor who works with students who are interested in Pre-Law. On another note we also have a number of law firms who are interested in recruiting PhDs to work in patent law.
This can be tough when your friends are all getting internships and when it seems the recruitment system is designed to pull you into certain jobs. You may find that an 8-10 week internship in a corporate environment is not what you really want or need. But there is some value in it.
