Cathy: Since the final presentations by the students we have ensured the student reports have been shared among a range of groups. The University’s Curriculum Transformation Project Student Engagement Strategy group have discussed how some of the ideas might be taken forward.

In focus groups, our student interns have led discussion with peers about their personal experiences in giving feedback to the University. They have also interviewed staff members – both academic and professional services – who are actively engaged in innovating student feedback mechanisms.

Each year, we have several categories celebrating these staff – from supervisors and cohort leads to the many professional services staff who keep things ticking along smoothly. I think this is a clear indicator of just how much they appreciate this part of their relationship with staff.

This platform gave a very practical way to communicate regularly and with shared purpose, potentially breaking down perceived barriers between staff and students. For students, they have personal and professional development opportunities to enhance their CVs, beyond the society involvement alone.

Edinburgh University Students’ Association was the first in the UK to offer student-led Teaching Awards, and our Awards are now in their 13th year. Staff play a pivotal role in the student experience at The University of Edinburgh, from Lecturers and Tutors to Supervisors, Personal Tutors and Professional Services staff.
