Staff play a pivotal role in the student experience at The University of Edinburgh, from Lecturers and Tutors to Supervisors, Personal Tutors and ProfessionalServicesstaff. Edinburgh University Students’ Association was the first in the UK to offer student-led Teaching Awards, and our Awards are now in their 13th year.
With Spotlight on Joint Degrees , a monthly blog post will bring you notes from the field, which we hope will encourage discussion across the university about what joint degrees should look like, and facilitate productive dialogue between students, professionalservicesstaff and academics.
The membership of the group spanned all three colleges, academics and professionalservices, and created a space for holistic discussions about this to occur. In 2018, the Senate Learning and Teaching Committee task group, “ Promoting inclusion, equality and diversity in the curriculum ”, was created to address these concerns.
The ‘Practice Worth Sharing’ (PWS) forum in the Moray House School of Education and Sport (MHSES) aims to promote discussion and to share information about practice that has worked well for academic/professionalservicesstaff, as well as providing opportunities to take a ‘tricky issue’ for discussion.

One solution is Go Abroad Staff , which provides Erasmus+ funding for academic and professionalservicesstaff to teach or train in Europe and beyond. I applied for Go Abroad Staff funding earlier this academic year, with the hope of visiting colleagues at Utrecht University, Netherlands.
As part of its remit, it provides ELDeR (Edinburgh Learning Design Roadmap) workshops for academic teams to (re)design courses and programmes, including facilitation from the IAD and representation from School-level Learning Technologists, ProfessionalServices, and Librarians, along with students and/or alumni.
