Prospective Latine/x college students in the U.S. are the most likely to choose community college as their first step when pursuing a higher education. This doesn't just mean hiring multilingual advisors or admissions recruiters.
As students cast a wider net when considering their options, it’s critical that community colleges make early, meaningful interactions with students, follow up with inquiries, and create a recruitmentcommunications strategy that will allow them to stand out against the other options the student might be considering.
Ultimately, my greatest fear is that this newly resurgent focus on career readiness will not only fail to prepare students for the workplace, but, worse, will harm the prospects of students who already face an uphill battle in the labor market—women, students of color and first-generation college students.
