The missive — signed by Dr. James McShay, assistant vice president for studentaffairs and interim director of fraternity and sorority life, and Dr. James Bond, director of studentconduct— references the Code of StudentConduct and the university's Hazing Policy.
In the past, he was director of the Paul Robeson Cultural Center at Rutgers University in New Brunswick and director of residence life and studentconduct at the City University of New York. “My My lived experiences have informed my career and life’s work,” Jones said.
Given SAALs mission and vision center, in part, on the creation of a thriving community , I thought I would share with you a bit of what I learn from these conversations as well as some information about the humans in these roles, the faces behind the listserv emails so to speak. I definitely stumbled into studentaffairs and assessment.
We ask all students, faculty, and staff to carefully review the University’s Hazing Prevention and Discipline policy. The policy defines hazing at VCU and describes conduct that constitutes hazing. It also provides information about reporting, investigation, and disciplinary action by the university.
Here is the next installment of our conversation series getting to know the leaders that make up this wonderful group of StudentAffairs Assessment Leaders and learning from their personal stories. I had a pretty traditional route into studentaffairs. I was also on the StudentConduct Board. I did a lot.
My question now became—why is studentaffairs not at the center of faculty development? Why is studentaffairs not leading faculty development work? We need to mobilize and deploy information towards dismantling oppressive structures and forces at play because we have the power to track the information that can do so.
