Donut Run The donut run is a 5k event at Hope during One Big Weekend that raises money for Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. I felt and saw the dedication of the people who were on stage and who wanted to win. Nykerk was so creative! Each year, adults run 3.4 miles around Holland while kids run around the football field.

Since 2000, Dance Marathon has raised over $2 million for Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. Almost a third of the student body gets involved, spending 24 straight hours dancing, laughing, and, at times, shedding tears for a cause that touches everyone.

So far in my three years at Hope, I have been a part of a variety of student organizations. As part of the decorations committee, I helped to transform the gymnasium for the event into an inviting space for the Miracle Children, streaming the area with astronauts, planets, and stars to reflect the outer space theme of that year’s marathon.
