Students that travel with me on school trips go through seminars and complete several student-directed PBL projects pertinent to the designated "purpose" prior to the trip. You can also ask that your children help plan the travel experience and that they fundraise for trips.

Hosting any event, fundraiser or service-learning could also be considered a group project, as it gives each student a small role to contribute toward one outcome. It could be related to one of the life skills seminars you are giving. The money we raise almost always goes towards field trips or fun learning materials.

This student coordinated fundraisers to raise money for the trip. She taught a seminar on Hawaiian geology to the students taking the trip, and more. Together we planned a geology-focused trip for a handful of students to the Big Island of Hawaii. She played a major role in planning the trip details and itinerary.

Host a Fundraiser: Raising money is a great way to take action. Several of my students organized a holiday pie fundraiser at the time when the Syrian refugee crisis was front and center. They not only learned about the Syrian conflict but also how to organize an effective fundraiser. heritage fairs, speaker series, and more.
