Studentfundraiser project opportunities! Spring is a great time of year to fundraise because we're in the final stretch of the school year. And what better way to do all of that than with student-led fundraiser projects? The purpose of the fundraiser project is to be determined by you and your students.
A facet of Student Life is the Student Activities Committee, also referred to as SAC. From movies in partnership with Multicultural StudentOrganizations (MSO’s), to a full-on Winter Fantasia dance in Grand Rapids – they have the student activities covered. Greek Life is also present at Hope College.
Require community experts in student-directed PBL designs: My students identify and connect with their own experts in the community as a source of information for their projects. Students can interview their community experts, shadow them, have the expert teach them a skill, or work with them on a concept in-person or virtually.
What is an authentic presentation? Some of my favorite projects over the course of my teaching career have been those that have truly embraced the idea of sharing work with a relevant and meaningful audience; those that have included an authentic presentation. Let's say a teacher assigns students to research invasive species.
Host a Fundraiser: Raising money is a great way to take action. Several of my studentsorganized a holiday pie fundraiser at the time when the Syrian refugee crisis was front and center. They not only learned about the Syrian conflict but also how to organize an effective fundraiser.
In addition 1) students reach out and engage with the community , 2) organize relevant learning experiences, and 3) share their new skills and knowledge with the world through an authentic presentation. Because I am a science teacher, my students do this almost everywhere we go.
