Previous to my assessment role, my experience was solely in residencelife and housing. Implementing assessment across a division of student affairs requires a large number of meetings for which I became skilled at effectively and efficiently running, a talent that very few faculty have—and it shows!
These bottom tiers often include scalable, preexisting services that include (but aren’t limited to) advising, residencelife, health and fitness, campus ministries, and student groups. Faculty, administrators, and staff also have a role to plan in this aligned model, often simply by doing what they do best.
This continued into college where some key staff and faculty mentors (my very own Professors McGonagall and Dumbledore) led me to Student Affairs. I longed to exercise that learning and academic part of my brain, and secretly worried that perhaps I had missed my calling to become a faculty member. And, I loved learning.
