I knew that this experience would provide me with an understanding of the various transferable skills necessary to organise an event of this scale within The University of Edinburgh. I have always wanted to take part in an event where I could witness the production and exchange of information between scholars in a real-world setting.

Josephine rose to this challenge and, following a short period of information gathering, she proposed and partially organised a yearlong programme of Let’s Gather events for students and staff. These events included monthly coffee and cake (with the wonderful Artisan Roast), Therapets, yoga and academic presentations.
Recognising this as a team of five postgraduate research students (PGR) representatives, we organised intellectually stimulating events focusing on the academic, social and wellbeing development of our diverse PGR learning community. We kicked off the year with an event titled, “PhD is a Rollercoaster”.
The Festival of Creative Learning , now entering its second year, is a year-long series of events exploring creative learning and innovation at the University of Edinburgh. Your event may involve performing, painting, crafting, writing, dyeing, baking, playing, escaping, debating, combining these, or something else entirely.
This year, I attended the GCB Awards Ceremony Night 2018, and would like to share everything about it, including students’ thoughts on how studying this course has impacted their lives. The event took place in the Playfair Library, one of the most beautiful locations in Edinburgh. – Haoshen Sarah Ivory, you are amazing!
My role so far has involved working on the postgraduate and doctoral research course brochures, collecting data for the Beltane Public Engagement Network team on their website and social media platforms, and helping out with events. I also enjoyed helping out with the 3 Minute Thesis competition.
Once they got started, the students have ripped our hands off in taking this opportunity, being highly imaginative and creative – way beyond our expectations. Current areas of responsibility include: the Edinburgh Award, SLICCs (Student-Led, Individually-Created Courses), Making Transitions Personal and the Development Hub.

Final Event, detailing my developmental goals, as well as how they had progressed. I would thoroughly recommend doing this, as it really helped me to reflect on my development over the summer, and see how much I had improved. At the end of my internship, I gave a presentation to other interns at the Employ.ed So how did I spend my summer?
Career Outcomes The transition to the workforce or further education is an essential aspect of student success. Tracking students' employment rates, job placement, salary levels, and acceptance into graduate programs can provide insights into their preparedness for their chosen career paths.
This could be in 1-1 meetings, or through some of the events we set up. We invite former alumni too, bringing together various generations of students, to share questions and experiences. For example, in term 1, we organise a social when the previous cohort comes back to graduate.
To add to the workload, we organised further events – seminars, lectures and, in one case, a book launch – around the visits. For starters, it involves a lot of admin: sending invitations, settling dates, booking hotels and cafes, and bugging guests to book their travel and send in papers on time.
The tools devised included a light-up installation, Making up your Mind , which enables young people to build personalised brain maps to be discussed at careers events, and IDK (I Don’t Know) , a mid-term creative festival of talks and workshops supported by a website, information pack and Snapchat filter.
We then also examined various iterations and developments through a simulation exercise to assess how the demand on these nurses changed throughout a procedure, and the skills they used to adapt to both these events in surgery as well.
The project can only be realised through close engagement with community groups, similar to the Galashiels project. A series of events will be held to orient students to the perspectives of community groups and organisations with an interest in the canal’s development.
