Director Nizhoni Marks says what the support entails depends on a student’s needs. Additional financial support includes studentemployment opportunities, and COIN helps students navigate that process. Events and activities happen throughout the academic year.
If employees are not happy with their job and engaged with the college community, they will become the stop out and dropouts that Dr. Tinto speaks of with college students. Employment stop-out will include a lack of productivity which leads to lower student persistence and graduation rates.
These capabilities empower our users to deliver more personalized experiences, optimize career services, and elevate studentemployability to meet the demands of today’s dynamic job market.
It was collaboratively agreed that the online resource needed to be accessible to both current students and graduates. Initially, this involved building a web/blog page where students and alumni could share their experiences, dissertation research, connected projects and events, etc.

My day-to-day role was mostly focused on event management and other project management. I was on the administrative side mostly, and the attraction there was continuing to be part of an education community – access to the arts, speakers, and community enrichment events that come with being part of a vibrant university.

This is essential to help students make more informed choices about the kind of work they will really enjoy, and also because employers really value that experience in their recruitment processes. So what is the value of work experience from an employer’s perspective? They also advertise around 10,000 vacancies annually.
I knew that this experience would provide me with an understanding of the various transferable skills necessary to organise an event of this scale within The University of Edinburgh. I have always wanted to take part in an event where I could witness the production and exchange of information between scholars in a real-world setting.

Josephine rose to this challenge and, following a short period of information gathering, she proposed and partially organised a yearlong programme of Let’s Gather events for students and staff. These events included monthly coffee and cake (with the wonderful Artisan Roast), Therapets, yoga and academic presentations.
Recognising this as a team of five postgraduate research students (PGR) representatives, we organised intellectually stimulating events focusing on the academic, social and wellbeing development of our diverse PGR learning community. We kicked off the year with an event titled, “PhD is a Rollercoaster”.
Through three community-building workshops, the project generated opportunities for dialogue between current students, academic staff, University services and external professionals. The three events are documented in the project website.
The Festival of Creative Learning , now entering its second year, is a year-long series of events exploring creative learning and innovation at the University of Edinburgh. Your event may involve performing, painting, crafting, writing, dyeing, baking, playing, escaping, debating, combining these, or something else entirely.
With very little experience of the Edinburgh Fringe festival as a 2019 fresher, I decided to apply for the Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas internship, which required event promotion and social media management. Both skills I had been fortunate enough to practise at a student-led mental health charity the preceding year during term time.
This year, I attended the GCB Awards Ceremony Night 2018, and would like to share everything about it, including students’ thoughts on how studying this course has impacted their lives. My role so far has involved working on the postgraduate and doctoral research course brochures, collecting data for the Beltane Public Engagement Network team on their website and social media platforms, and helping out with events. I also enjoyed helping out with the 3 Minute Thesis competition.

Once they got started, the students have ripped our hands off in taking this opportunity, being highly imaginative and creative – way beyond our expectations. Current areas of responsibility include: the Edinburgh Award, SLICCs (Student-Led, Individually-Created Courses), Making Transitions Personal and the Development Hub.
Moreover, presentations are often one-off, high-stakes components of, for example, a final-year project, for which feedback, coming after the event, is useless. I redesigned the “skills” component (15%) of Honours Analysis, a 20-credit course for third-year mathematics students, to develop presentation skills.
Final Event, detailing my developmental goals, as well as how they had progressed. I would thoroughly recommend doing this, as it really helped me to reflect on my development over the summer, and see how much I had improved. At the end of my internship, I gave a presentation to other interns at the Employ.ed So how did I spend my summer?
I call this an enabler event because it gets students to think about the importance of their health and wellbeing, using a range of fun recreational activities. Support services in the University also take part in this event. Any member of School staff can nominate a student and nominations can be made all year.
Furthermore, the various events held by Access to the Professions , such as ‘So You Want to be a Lawyer?’, allowed me to have a better understanding of what would be desired of me as a law student. I met current students, other prospective students, practising solicitors, and advocates, and became familiar with the university.
Following placements, I found it useful to have a group meeting with students to reflect on what worked well and what could be improved. Ultimately, each specific placement is different, and anybody coordinating a number of them will need to be nimble and able to react to events.

This could be in 1-1 meetings, or through some of the events we set up. We invite former alumni too, bringing together various generations of students, to share questions and experiences. For example, in term 1, we organise a social when the previous cohort comes back to graduate.
Grenoble is for students: With over 65,000 university students and several prestigious universities, Grenoble is an ideal place to study abroad. The city is regularly voted most popular university town in France with so much to do for students– free museums, free events or ticket discounts, special offers for meals, movies, theater.
As part of this, MyDevelopmentHub was launched in 2017/18 and continues as an important online signposting tool for students interested in any aspect of their development – personal, professional, or academic – improving access to relevant activities, events, and resources.
To add to the workload, we organised further events – seminars, lectures and, in one case, a book launch – around the visits. For starters, it involves a lot of admin: sending invitations, settling dates, booking hotels and cafes, and bugging guests to book their travel and send in papers on time.
Two of our AFHEA students from the 2018 cohort presented on their own approaches to teaching at the vet school’s Celebrating Teaching event (see picture below). Both presentations were professional and thought-provoking, and sat comfortably alongside talks by members of teaching staff.
Accreditation by AMBA serves as an assurance to students, employers, and other stakeholders that a business school's MBA program meets the highest standards of excellence in business education. Accredited schools are also eligible to attend AMBA events, which provide networking opportunities and access to the latest industry insights.
Places can be booked for the lunchtime launch event on the 21 st of June. From late May, discussion groups with postgraduate research students will be held across the institution. It will also provide a forum for supervisors to meet and share practice. Information can be found on the Programme webpages.
So, if they have to cover an extra shift at work or their car breaks down, students can stay on pace with the rest of their class. Provide curricular flexibility Today’s college students need flexibility. A single event can derail their best efforts in the classroom.
How is the connection between current students and alumni? Do alumni easily offer internships or other opportunities to current students? There is a very strong alumni network at MIT, and there are a number of events and opportunities happening on campus throughout the year for students to connect with alumni.
The tools devised included a light-up installation, Making up your Mind , which enables young people to build personalised brain maps to be discussed at careers events, and IDK (I Don’t Know) , a mid-term creative festival of talks and workshops supported by a website, information pack and Snapchat filter.

A student in Singapore described local students as being reluctant to include exchange students in group projects, assuming they would not contribute as much effort.
We then also examined various iterations and developments through a simulation exercise to assess how the demand on these nurses changed throughout a procedure, and the skills they used to adapt to both these events in surgery as well.
Besides, starting your own company is just one way of turning creative thinking into economic impact – some students might become innovators in large companies, some might work in IP law, some could run venture capital funds and a small percentage may become academics.
