What I’ve Learned on Worship Team

Hope College Network

As you may know if you’ve read my blog before, I have the privilege of being on the worship team at Hope. I get to help lead music at Hope’s worship services multiple times a week. It is my favorite thing that I do at Hope. When I look back on my time in college, I am pretty positive that this will be the thing that I think of, even though I was only on the team for one year.

Technology Enhanced Learning is now at scale

Teaching Matters Online Learning

I first visited Stanford and MIT in 1973 when I was writing computer programs to teach school students algebra. At Stanford I was impressed by how people doing similar work used statistics to guide their teaching programs but I was more intrigued by MIT projects that emphasised the way that learners could express their own ideas using specially designed programming languages.

Student Involvement – A report on the Gearing Up Conference, March 2016

Teaching Matters Academic Support

I recently attended the 4th annual Gearing Up conference in March. The conference focussed on Student Transitions tying in with the current QAA Enhancement Themes. For me as a member of staff who supports taught postgraduate students via study skills workshops, the conference was an opportunity to meet academics, support staff and students. It made me look at support mechanisms and opportunities that are in place and think about what points in the transitions periods – into, during and out

One of the most visited websites worldwide, and now one of the most trusted, Wikipedia is a resource used by most university students. Increasingly, many instructors around the world have used Wikipedia as a teaching tool in their university classrooms as well.

Engaging the professional community in teaching medical students

Teaching Matters Experiential Learning

You might think that the teaching content in a professional vocational degree like medicine – defined by the governing body the General Medical Council ( GMC ) and detailing what a medical student should know as they exit their undergraduate programme and embark on their first day as a junior doctor – would be almost entirely prescriptive. And of course, you would be right.

3 Reasons Why I Loved My Study Abroad Program

Hope College Network

I’ve been back in Michigan for a little over a week now, and I’m still processing the fact that I’ve been in Ireland for four months. It’s just crazy to think I’ve been there and experienced so much all within such a short amount of time. There were so many things that made my time in Ireland memorable, but one aspect that was a huge part of my experience was the program that I went through – IES.

Distance learning is an important and increasing area within the University’s teaching and learning portfolio. It allows students to embark upon and engage in their studies in a more flexible way that can integrate with their busy day-to-day lives. The right blend of student, supervisors and research topic is important, but if the blend is right then it can lead to a different, productive and exciting learning experience for all concerned.

So here’s to you, Phelps 204, we couldn’t have made it without you. It started in August, soccer preseason was upon us.

How I Stay Organized

Hope College Network

Hello, everyone! One thing I have learned to do well this year is staying organized with my assignments, being aware of when big papers and tests are coming up (which is a big, recent development) and taking better care to write down when I have meetings, work, and rehearsals to make sure that I don’t miss anything. I have figured out a pretty good system that works well for me, so I thought I would share it!

These were my first online distance learning students and they were embarking on the University’s first fully online distance learning programme. Little did I know that in each subsequent year I would say those same words to another cohort of new students.

There have been moments lately when all I wanted was time to hurry up, go faster so class could end and I can take nap during my busy day, or so I can have more time to finish my essay. And yet there have plenty more moments when I wanted time to slow down so I can enjoy the little things, whether it’s walking downtown eating a waffle cone from Kilwin’s , catching up with a friend in the
