While community colleges play a crucial role in providing accessible and affordable education to diverse student populations, many still struggle to fully accommodate students with disabilities, according to insights from community college students, faculty, and higher education experts.
In situations with unsuccessful placement, students with ASDs may present as agitated and frustrated, indicating difficulty with self-regulation. High school vs. college During the school-age years, a student with a learning disability is identified formally so that she can receive appropriate instruction and services. In this environment, school faculty and staff understand the complexities of managing life with a learning disability.
Faculty should assume that the students who do have formal accommodations have jumped through so many hoops to get them, and these accommodations are not giving them a leg up. That's something that I think a lot of faculty don't quite understand because they've never been through this process. It's giving them a fair shot.
