If you’re a communitycollege, you have a certain set of employers that need like, So the partnerships element, how do we engage employment is such a massive challenge that I sometimes sit back and I go, we’re doing all this work. A lot of it is within communitycolleges. And so I think a lot of people are.
But they might also act as a kind of a bridge between the public sector and the private sector, a kind of an entry point, a way to enter the labor market, especially if we are talking about professional credentials, professional or even industry certifications, for instance. Or if you have an industry certification that’s integrated into an educational degree program, that can be an example of a stackable credential. So first, we’ve had these two siloed systems where we have kind of occupational credentials, industry certifications and licenses that are over here on one side.
We’re going to expand how we evaluate the external market for a program and the occupational and industrial need and trends. We’re going to reframe the mission section to allow programs and colleges to articulate the strategic need (or lack thereof) for a particular program area.
And then obviously I’ve gotta get the coordination with communitycolleges in my area or four years in my area and all that stuff. And especially in the workforce space and the business and industry space, one of the key pain points for CTE is the right kind of equipment or the right kind of training for instructors.
And we talked about there’s a lot of students that are attending a communitycollege that want to transfer to another institution, but don’t end up doing it. Eight out of 10 students that go to a communitycollege want to go. It does not guarantee that you’re actually gonna create a community.
And you need to understand what those are and how the industry is evolving and requiring a different set of skills so that you can shift what you’re teaching in the program. You know, a 50 mile radius of my communitycollege. Also college positive, also sort of higher ed positive.
So going back to those macro challenges the industry is facing, the pressure on higher education is tremendous right now. As more and more people question the value and relevance of a college degree, and that’s evidenced in a lot of ways. And and what are the ones that we actually need to focus more on? Like all of that is great.
But I also know that the industry at large, when you served a more 18 to 22-year-old traditional market, you weren’t thinking about transfer. as just a number with a set of learning credits on a transcript, like 30 credits, 45 credits from a communitycollege or an R1 or whatever. How do we build up industry level agreement on what a lot of people call ready to work, employability skills, then sector specific skills. Nick Moore (25:18.816) Yeah, and I think that’s of an existential need for institutions, know, particularly communitycolleges and regionals and other smaller providers to make that switch.
And so, you know, I think the industry is really looking at. It’s at communitycolleges. And I really do think that’s, you know, we’re gonna start to see that because going back to that industry side, it’s an efficiency for them, right? This is also regional four-year schools.
