Based on an annual survey by the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC), only 45.7% of colleges and universities view scores on the standardized tests to be of “considerable importance”. But at College Possible, I was the one who reached out to the students, not anyone else. I was responsible for setting up meetings with students and making sure they were not falling behind on their collegeprep milestones. But I quickly learned that I needed to take more initiative in building our connection.

During COVID, Aubrey did some soul-searching and discovered that she wanted to pursue a career in higher education, which led her to join College Possible as a coach. Serving with College Possible was a great opportunity for Aubrey to see what the journey to college looked like from a different perspective.
Usually CBOs, we know our students, we know which schools they wanna go to, we know which schools can offer them the kinds of financialaid they need. Are they applying for financialaid? Our state entity, the Higher Education Services Corporation that monitors and tracks all of our FAFSA completion and our New York State financialaid award called TAP, Tuition Assistance Program. Nobody knew what a college counselor was. Are they applying to CUNY?
