In an open-ended question, students identified several ways institutions can better support their success, including: Promoting Awareness of Resources: Students called for more accessible and transparent communication about resources like tutoring, counseling, and careerservices. Talk about these services more openly.
It can be frustrating to dedicate time, money, and effort to careerservices in higher education and see headlines like “ Colleges get F for career prep ” go mainstream. . After all, this work with students is essential. And yet, the current approach to careerservices is lacking in impact.
This project was particularly important to me because of the impact CliftonStrengths had made in my life and how the tool was being used to support post-secondary students’ development. I was both excited to lead a project I was passionate about and nervous about how it would all come together. Challenges.

They expect educational offerings to be accessible, engaging, and relevant to their specific career aspirations. If students aren’t convinced that your degree offering will help them advance, they aren’t going to enroll. Students look for programs that not only educate them but also help facilitate their success after graduation.
The course staff feel that a more private blog is a good way for students to express ideas and reflect on them (in a safe space), and really helps the course staff and the student to connect. Dr Simon Riley is using it in part of the Student-Led, Individually-Created Courses (SLICCs) project.

It’s so important that studentsdevelop these soft skills and even harder skills as well.
Helping more students access launchpad jobs requires colleges to rethink on-campus employment programs and careerservices. A wealth of data points to paid internships’ value and connection to successful career launches.
“Your institutions can help that studentdevelop, discover, find their purpose and passion, while they’re picking up all kinds of skills along the way,” Ferrick said. “They’re asking for the ‘and.’”
