It was early in 2017 when our StudentLife department received the approval we had been waiting for – we were embarking on a journey to make the University of Guelph-Humber a CliftonStrengths campus and I was tasked with leading the project. Campus leaders need to thoroughly assess, streamline, and reprioritize these efforts to ensure all students are aware of and have access to support services and preparation resources and that the teams doing the work can collaborate efficiently and effectively. How is your campus preparing students for graduation and beyond?
As well as sending students out into schools as language ambassadors, it is also important to invite school classes into the university so that pupils can gain some first-hand experience of studentlife on campus. One event we regularly run in October and November is our “speed-date a language student” project.
These positions are particularly suited to social scientists who have experience with extracting and analyzing quantitative data, designing and conducting surveys, organizing focus groups, presenting data, and writing reports. and postdocs explore and enter a diverse range of careers.
Retention is improved since the results motivate and help students feel like they belong. The career and PD team also presentscareer outcomes and experiences to inform other departments of its findings and to get feedback from them. About half of these students intern twice or more.
The CAA evaluates the quality of the institution's academic programs, including the rigor and relevance of its courses, the effectiveness of its teaching methods, and the support provided to students.
A lot of times, mental well-being is placed on the back burner to make room for assignments, essays, group projects, presentations, readings, and exams… (sound familiar?) Check into counselling and other studentservices offered by your school if it will help. Don’t forget to also focus on your mental health.
