Butler, who currently serves as the Haub Vice President for University Mission and Ministry, will succeed William P. Since joining the university's CampusMinistry in 2002, he has been instrumental in advancing several key initiatives, including formative education programs and Core Curriculum renewal. This year, PUC’s campusministry team created a new role, Vespers programming director, with student Alexis Villarreal being the first to fit this title. For Alexis, it is a demanding but rewarding job, requiring intentionality and meticulous work, and best of all, being a part of a great team that keeps him grounded.
executive director and founder of Campus Pride. The school also partnered with Appalachian Understories, United CampusMinistry Center, and Southeastern Ohio Rainbow Alliance (SEORA) to organize a mile-long Jun. In honor of Pride Month, college and university campuses across the U.S. 25 at the gallery. Let’s Read It!:
CampusMinistries is one of my favorite places on Hope’s campus. CampusMinistries has brought me the community I always hoped for, but never thought possible. worshipping on the hill with friends: spring semester 2023 Coming to Hope, I didn’t know much about faith life on campus.
The University of North Florida (UNF), by example, has shuttered several on-campus centers, including the LGBTQ Center. “We are increasingly concerned that this trend will have a chilling effect across more campuses if these laws spread to other states.” Under this law, public institutions of higher education cannot engage in DEI activities.
When I moved here in August, downtown Holland, with its beach and the beautiful campus, was thriving in green and colorful hues. The warmth of your friends being around you, having coffee, and study sessions in cozy spots like CampusMinistries will help you deal with winter. But winter? Suddenly, winter doesnt feel so bad.
There are so many opportunities for students to worship on campus! Outside the dorms, our campusministry team works really hard to make worship available. Whether through Bible studies, small groups, or campus-wide vespers. I’m looking forward to seeing our effect on campus! Please keep us in your prayers.
Jacob Duran has been involved with dorm worship since his freshman year. Now, as a sophomore, he is the Director of Combined Dorm Worship and Spiritual Residence Assistant for Newton Hall. In the past years, each residence hall at PUC hosted its own dorm worship. Ive also enjoyed the even smaller, more intimate hall worship for Newton.
And if structured sessions from CampusMinistries arent your thing, no worries. There are cozy on-campus prayer spaces where you can sit, think, or just breathe. These places offer modern fitness equipment and spaces for group activities. Seriously, the sauna alone is a game-changer! Sundays are my swimming days.
When I walked onto Hope’s campus the summer before my senior year of high school, I could feel it was different than the other schools I’d toured. If I go somewhere on campus or downtown, I typically run into a few people I know and a few I don’t. a photo from my first visit to Hope in August 2021 1.
Students can sign up with CampusMinistries and travel on weeklong trips over spring break where they are able to be immersed in a new culture, have their worldviews expanded, serve in new ways, and build community with one another. Immersion trips are one of my favorite opportunities at Hope. Our team and the chapel we built!
President Scogin does exactly this– even at similar small colleges, it’s rare to have a president that lives on campus with his family, knows many of his students’ names, and eats in the dining hall with everyone else. Last Halloween, all of campus was even invited to Trick or Treat at Scogin’s house.
11:00 AM-12:30 PM After class, I went to work at my on-campus job in Campus Print and Mail. 7:00 PM-10:00 PM After coming back to campus and eating dinner, I headed to CampusMinistries– one of my favorite places to get work done. and got a donut to share, then headed back to CampusMinistries.
Views at Camp Geneva during individual prayer time at the CampusMinistries Leadership Retreat I arrived at Hope for my freshman year, and had a roommate named Natalie. I talked to Chaplains, signed up for Bible study, declared a Ministry minor, attended Chapel and began to take the personal steps to get to know God’s character.
CampusMinistries Night Out (September 6) Women’s and Men’s Night Out also happens near the beginning of the school year. CampusMinistries provides transportation to and from Camp Geneva, and it’s a fun Friday evening of food, community, and encouragement.
One of my jobs on campus, this job, is essentially the title of this blog post: Writing for Media at Hope College. I’ve decided to write about the CampusMinistries here at Hope. Check out the blog and the Twitter to keep up with what I’m writing about Hope’s CampusMinistries this semester!
Many clubs on campus allow you to come and go as you’re able to, so there’s no pressure. Besides those, campusministries will hold other events from time to time, so keep an eye out. Other Activities If you’re looking for something to do, there are always events happening on campus. I highly recommend checking it out.
Check out these links to learn more about how you can get involved on campus: Student Life , the Center for Diversity and Inclusion , and CampusMinistries. On the last day of Orientation, students have the chance to learn all about what you can take part in during your time at Hope. Interested in learning more?
Outside of the dorm, Counseling and Psychological Services and CampusMinistries chaplains are helpful resources that offer support in the transition to independent living. CampusMinistries staff invited my friend group to their house for dinner as we prepped for exams. Moving away from home can definitely be hard!
There are so many services and offices on this campus that I am sure I still do not know what all of them do, or even that they exist, but here are a few that I visit or make use of most often! CampusMinistries is in charge of Chapel and Gathering services , so the worship team that I am on runs through them.
Hope’s CampusMinistries team organizes corporate worship (chapel and the Gathering), small group Bible studies , campus events, and an annual tradition called Immersion Trips. On these trips, groups of students travel across the globe to serve God and be immersed in new cultures over spring break. I came back different.
Chapel, the Gathering and everything CampusMinistries offers is completely optional for students. The support in faith and life that CampusMinistries chaplains and Bible Study leaders offer has been absolutely transformational in my journey here at Hope. To me, this heightens its impact.
Many of us attend CampusMinistries services, like Chapel and the Gathering, but a fewer number of us are involved in a local church. Maybe we don’t want to leave campus. Pillar Church is a beautiful community of college students and families. Holland is the land of a thousand churches. Maybe we just want to sleep in.
Typically, I have meetings or touch base with other campusministries staff before chapel. After chapel, I typically have lunch with someone on campus. Okay, so this might not exactly be Hope’s greatest mystery, BUT it (more accurately, he) was definitely a mystery at least to me for a while. What were you doing before?
There is also the Gathering service every Sunday on campus at Dimnent, and CampusMinistry will also host events for deeper faith formation, including several Bible studies. Benedict Institute on campus offers Catholic mass every day and the sacrament of adoration every Tuesday in St. At its very core, Hope is distinct.
Additionally, the campusministries office provides opportunities including bible study groups, immersion trips, and 3x weekly Chapel worship series. As I transition into preparing for the next semester, I wonder what makes Hope the place that it is. Opportunities for Catholic students are also available through the St.
I was assigned to a group of fivefour girls and our leader, Aidan. The house we were working on had already received much attention from previous teams, and the only remaining task was finishing the flooring in a small bathroom. Despite it being the first day and all of us eager to dive into work, there wasn’t much to do.
Few things bond you like, in the words of one campus staff member, “seeing each other when you’re nasty.” I get to help lead music at Hope’s worship services multiple times a week. It is my favorite thing that I do at Hope. It is a gift and a blessing. Meeting with people multiple times a week at 7 a.m.
It’s been easy to get involved, see friends when I need to, and go to church without straying too far from campus. A way that I’m going to start this conversation is by attending the event series “Life After College” which is put on by the Career Development Center , CampusMinistries , and the Senior Seminar program.
Picture it: You are a high school graduate ready to make “the big move” to become a college student with a college life, on a college campus, in college housing. Living in the same campus environment where you learn makes your Hope education as complete as it can be. You are ready! And you know what? We are ready for you, too!
One of my favorite people to ever walk through the Pine Grove with was Kevin Kambo, a former Hope College Philosophy professor who I happened to meet once in CampusMinistries. Mentors can be found everywhere on Hope’s campus, but I was fortunate enough to meet my first mentor, Nate Haveman, before I even knew where Holland was.
CampusMinistries also puts on a special event called Lessons and Carols, which happens on the last Sunday night before exam week. Both on campus and off, Holland is my favorite place to be this time of year! Downtown Atmosphere Downtown Holland is gorgeous all year long, but it quite literally shines at Christmastime.
Beyond CampusMinistries, my professors have been hugely impactful to my faith journey. And, if you seek it out, you will find a community of believers that love Jesus wholeheartedly and serve Him in every corner of Hope’s campus. . Beyond my roommates, I am also thankful for the diversity of faith backgrounds Hope represents.
As a freshman, I came to Hope on a hail mary pass. Terrified to leave my family and the incredible community I had at home, I dreaded all the unknown. It was the first time I truly had to trust God with my future. I was thriving at school, and yet, Freshman year didn’t go without its hard nights of feeling lonely, misunderstood, and homesick.
I remember my visit days oh too well–trying to mask how freaked out I was, unsure about how to hold the massive orange folder on my campus tour, and sitting at chapel feeling awkward that my mom was taking a video of the worship team. I was beyond overwhelmed. A wave of more decisions looms ahead.
I had a meeting with Nancy (a Chaplin from CampusMinistries) and expressed the desire for a mentor. Coming into college and moving away from home, it does not take long to notice the lack of older influence in your life. one’s major) is irreplaceable. It Takes Time.
PUC Enrollment Counselor and Connect Ministry Director Glanelle Marie Ejurango has been working hard this school year advising her teams on how to lead people through worship, music, and preaching. “We What inspired you to lead this ministry? What are your goals for this coming school year with Connect Ministries?
Winter Fantasia (a SAC-sponsored dance), Men’s Night Out and Women’s Night Out (biannual CampusMinistries events) and the Hope-Calvin basketball game occurred either in the past week or will occur this week. At Hope, there are plenty of great opportunities for students to relax and enjoy life beyond homework. Collaborate!
These bottom tiers often include scalable, preexisting services that include (but aren’t limited to) advising, residence life, health and fitness, campusministries, and student groups. The upper tiers represent high-intensity options such as 1:1 counseling, while the bottom tiers represent lower intensity programs and services.
I distinctly remember the first time coming back home from college. It was the Fall break of my first year. As I pulled the luggage from underneath my dormitory twin-sized bed, I brushed off the dust and transferred my clothes from the wooden wardrobe tucked into the corner of my room.
How much downtime you have definitely depends on the campus job you have, but for me, the mailroom has been a good balance. One more thing to consider… Working an on-campus job specifically means you usually are not scheduled on campus-wide breaks, and your bosses also understand that school ultimately is a priority.
If not for these then go on an immersion trip through CampusMinistries! The Badlands were formed by a salt-lake that dried up and left behind fossilized turtle shells and neat patterns of dirt and rocks. It’s a beautiful hike — but an even greater look into why the tribe treasures the land taken from them.
They’re still all around Hope’s campus, but I miss spending every day with them. If you can get a chance to, sign up to go on an Immersion Trip through CampusMinistries. Yet I feel a little bit lost and in the wrong, all because I’m not in New Jersey with the 12 other people I spent the last week with.
I owe that to Hope’s lovely CampusMinistries , and the freedom to have the choice in my religious practices here at Hope. The semester isn’t entirely over – I still have three more finals to take (Curse you, finals schedule, for making me have two finals on Friday). My semester began very positively.
