The University of North Florida (UNF), by example, has shuttered several on-campus centers, including the LGBTQ Center. The government affairs department of Equality Texas has been surveying students and faculty at the Texas institutions impacted by SB 17 to gauge how it has been implemented.
When I moved here in August, downtown Holland, with its beach and the beautiful campus, was thriving in green and colorful hues. The warmth of your friends being around you, having coffee, and study sessions in cozy spots like CampusMinistries will help you deal with winter. But winter? Suddenly, winter doesnt feel so bad.
There are so many opportunities for students to worship on campus! Outside the dorms, our campusministry team works really hard to make worship available. Whether through Bible studies, small groups, or campus-wide vespers. How can faculty and staff support you and your team? Please keep us in your prayers.
When I walked onto Hope’s campus the summer before my senior year of high school, I could feel it was different than the other schools I’d toured. It’s very clear that Hope faculty are holistically engaged in their students, and that’s something that I’ve been grateful for through my time here.
I’ve met faculty’s children, spouses, and dogs. President Scogin does exactly this– even at similar small colleges, it’s rare to have a president that lives on campus with his family, knows many of his students’ names, and eats in the dining hall with everyone else. The event happens in the Pine Grove (weather permitting) and is a time of Hope students and faculty getting together to praise, dance, and be in community with one another. CampusMinistries Night Out (September 6) Women’s and Men’s Night Out also happens near the beginning of the school year.

These bottom tiers often include scalable, preexisting services that include (but aren’t limited to) advising, residence life, health and fitness, campusministries, and student groups. Faculty, administrators, and staff also have a role to plan in this aligned model, often simply by doing what they do best.
I remember my visit days oh too well–trying to mask how freaked out I was, unsure about how to hold the massive orange folder on my campus tour, and sitting at chapel feeling awkward that my mom was taking a video of the worship team. I was beyond overwhelmed. A wave of more decisions looms ahead.
As a freshman, I came to Hope on a hail mary pass. Terrified to leave my family and the incredible community I had at home, I dreaded all the unknown. It was the first time I truly had to trust God with my future. I was thriving at school, and yet, Freshman year didn’t go without its hard nights of feeling lonely, misunderstood, and homesick.
I had a meeting with Nancy (a Chaplin from CampusMinistries) and expressed the desire for a mentor. Because of Hope’s size, professors and other faculty love to play a role in students’ lives.
