This year, PUC’s campusministry team created a new role, Vespers programming director, with student Alexis Villarreal being the first to fit this title. Junior theology major Kyler VanHook has been the Bible study and sabbath school coordinator for PUC’s CampusMinistries team for two years. He became interested in joining this team after noticing how much he wanted to help with vespers and programs like Week of Prayer.
The warmth of your friends being around you, having coffee, and study sessions in cozy spots like CampusMinistries will help you deal with winter. My favorite spot, with just the right amount of noise, is CampusMinistries. CampusMinistries is my go-to for studying math and reading books.
Houston Canterbury, an Episcopal organization serving the three public universities in Houston, partnered with Lutheran, United Church of Christ, and Jewish campusministries to offer LGBTQ+ student organizations free use of the A.D. Bruce Religion Center on the University of Houston campus.
There are so many opportunities for students to worship on campus! Outside the dorms, our campusministry team works really hard to make worship available. Whether through Bible studies, small groups, or campus-wide vespers.

Students can sign up with CampusMinistries and travel on weeklong trips over spring break where they are able to be immersed in a new culture, have their worldviews expanded, serve in new ways, and build community with one another. Immersion trips are one of my favorite opportunities at Hope.
And if structured sessions from CampusMinistries arent your thing, no worries. There are cozy on-campus prayer spaces where you can sit, think, or just breathe. Hope really does a great job of creating these welcoming, inclusive spaces for anyone to take a step back from the rush of daily life.
CampusMinistries I found my community primarily through CampusMinistries at Hope, and it’s one of my favorite things about being a student here. CampusMinistries organizes Bible Studies, Spring Break Immersion Trips, chapels, and the Gathering (Sunday night services).
7:00 PM-10:00 PM After coming back to campus and eating dinner, I headed to CampusMinistries– one of my favorite places to get work done. and got a donut to share, then headed back to CampusMinistries. This has become a staple every week and I’ve really enjoyed engaging with Holland in a new way.
Every student personally chooses to be involved in CampusMinistries, the Gathering, or Bible Studies, which means that spaces of intentionality are cultivated. I loved the thought of having a faith community at my school, and I also loved that absolutely nothing was required.
Views at Camp Geneva during individual prayer time at the CampusMinistries Leadership Retreat I arrived at Hope for my freshman year, and had a roommate named Natalie. I did not know anyone my age who had been able to develop that relationship. It seemed a personal relationship with God was impossible to grasp, like water vapor.
Faith is an evident and encouraging part of life on campus, from weekly services, to CampusMinistries , to student-led Bible studies. The beautiful part about faith on campus is that nothing is stifling or obligatory, but an open invitation for students to either explore or grow their faith.
CampusMinistries Night Out (September 6) Women’s and Men’s Night Out also happens near the beginning of the school year. CampusMinistries provides transportation to and from Camp Geneva, and it’s a fun Friday evening of food, community, and encouragement.
I’ve decided to write about the CampusMinistries here at Hope. Because of this, I have started a blog where I will report on various stories throughout the semester on things that go on at Hope involving our campusministries. A beat is a theme or area to focus on. I have a Twitter that you can follow as well.
Jacob Duran has been involved with dorm worship since his freshman year. Now, as a sophomore, he is the Director of Combined Dorm Worship and Spiritual Residence Assistant for Newton Hall. In the past years, each residence hall at PUC hosted its own dorm worship.
Besides those, campusministries will hold other events from time to time, so keep an eye out. Other Activities If you’re looking for something to do, there are always events happening on campus. Hope has many great ways to get involved on campus, whether it’s through a club, campusministries, or other events.

Outside of the dorm, Counseling and Psychological Services and CampusMinistries chaplains are helpful resources that offer support in the transition to independent living. CampusMinistries staff invited my friend group to their house for dinner as we prepped for exams.
There are so many services and offices on this campus that I am sure I still do not know what all of them do, or even that they exist, but here are a few that I visit or make use of most often! CampusMinistries is in charge of Chapel and Gathering services , so the worship team that I am on runs through them.
Hope’s CampusMinistries team organizes corporate worship (chapel and the Gathering), small group Bible studies , campus events, and an annual tradition called Immersion Trips. On these trips, groups of students travel across the globe to serve God and be immersed in new cultures over spring break.
Chapel, the Gathering and everything CampusMinistries offers is completely optional for students. The support in faith and life that CampusMinistries chaplains and Bible Study leaders offer has been absolutely transformational in my journey here at Hope. To me, this heightens its impact.
Many of us attend CampusMinistries services, like Chapel and the Gathering, but a fewer number of us are involved in a local church. Maybe we don’t want to leave campus. Pillar Church is a beautiful community of college students and families. Holland is the land of a thousand churches. Maybe we just want to sleep in.
Typically, I have meetings or touch base with other campusministries staff before chapel. After chapel, I typically have lunch with someone on campus. Want to know more about Bruce, CampusMinistries, or Hope? Thanks for reading!
There is also the Gathering service every Sunday on campus at Dimnent, and CampusMinistry will also host events for deeper faith formation, including several Bible studies. Benedict Institute on campus offers Catholic mass every day and the sacrament of adoration every Tuesday in St. Additionally, the St.
Additionally, the campusministries office provides opportunities including bible study groups, immersion trips, and 3x weekly Chapel worship series. As such, the College provides multiple ways to receive faith formation both as a student and as an individual. Opportunities for Catholic students are also available through the St.
One of my favorite people to ever walk through the Pine Grove with was Kevin Kambo, a former Hope College Philosophy professor who I happened to meet once in CampusMinistries. Mentors can be found outside of your major or interest areas.
This team, the chaplains over at CampusMinistries , the tech team , the people who clean Dimnent Chapel, the people who write our music (some of whom, like Sandra McCracken , we’ve gotten to meet and even play with!) May “All Hail Christ” never die.
CampusMinistries also puts on a special event called Lessons and Carols, which happens on the last Sunday night before exam week. Vespers is a well-known Christmas concert that Hope’s music ensembles put on in Dimnent Chapel in a weekend typically near the beginning of December.
A way that I’m going to start this conversation is by attending the event series “Life After College” which is put on by the Career Development Center , CampusMinistries , and the Senior Seminar program. Every week the series will be covering a different topic that seniors will have to face after graduation.
Some are themed for students who speak Spanish or French; for students involved in CampusMinistries or International Education; for Greek life; and, for students who participate in Emmaus Scholars , Phelps Scholars and Day1. Some are smaller. Some apartments are downtown above local shops. Some cottages are historic homes.
Among my favorite memories from this year are going to hockey and basketball games with my friends, leading a bible study through campusministries, concluding my two majors with favorite classes, and doing life with my five amazing housemates.
Beyond CampusMinistries, my professors have been hugely impactful to my faith journey. Surrounded by hundreds of my peers, chapel is a time where I remember all the people around me who share a common purpose of following Jesus.
Winter Fantasia (a SAC-sponsored dance), Men’s Night Out and Women’s Night Out (biannual CampusMinistries events) and the Hope-Calvin basketball game occurred either in the past week or will occur this week. At Hope, there are plenty of great opportunities for students to relax and enjoy life beyond homework.

I had a meeting with Nancy (a Chaplin from CampusMinistries) and expressed the desire for a mentor. For any student that really wants a mentor at Hope College, all you have to do is ask. My freshman year, I really wanted guidance while I was working my way through the book of Romans.
These bottom tiers often include scalable, preexisting services that include (but aren’t limited to) advising, residence life, health and fitness, campusministries, and student groups. The upper tiers represent high-intensity options such as 1:1 counseling, while the bottom tiers represent lower intensity programs and services.
