The course is firmly embedded in a tangible place and contexts, encouraging students to start defining their own investigative agendas. The course assembles 14 students from around the world with different professional backgrounds, a majority of them in the field of architecture.
The four research projects I have led so far are directly related to a part of my applied research work in proposing future-oriented collaborative solutions in a highly technical space access architecture domain ( Vidmar and Webber, 2017 ). Final projects are presented at a showcase event, and also as an open website showcase on the MBChB website to provide a view from outside the programme into the medicine curriculum and our students. Please take a look.
It’s the four or five “in the middle” who either have not thought about it or have not considered it as an option who are the ones that we are interested in engaging with to help them explore their potential. The craft analogy also then opens doors to viewing entrepreneurship as a profession like medicine and architecture.
With the help of our design intern, Annie Adam, we created our personalised banner based on a staple of Edinburgh architecture: Argyle House. Setting up the blog itself was not the greatest challenge because I had past experience with WordPress, and it wasn’t long before Cecily and I picked a template.
