Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) play a vital role in advancing educational opportunities for Latine students across the United States. As their numbers have surged to over 600 institutions, representing 20% of all colleges and universities nationwide, HSIs now enroll and advise two-thirds of all Latino undergraduates.
The center serves as a one-stop destination where students can access tutoring, academicadvising, career counseling, and various support services designed to help them navigate their academic journey successfully. The introduction of the Fannie Jackson Coppin Scholars program has been another game-changer in student success.
Ostensibly, they should tell us what students have learned—and tell educators where they need to focus. Crucially, grades also offer students a reflection of their readiness for advanced coursework or higher education. Without some form of assessment, students would lack the feedback they need to navigate their educational journeys.
