Over the past four years, some higher education officials and politicians have pushed back: for example, in 2020, a group of university presidents and athletic directors in Massachusetts testified before the state Legislature with the strong recommendation not to legalize college sports betting in Massachusetts.
However, working class students can complete their undergraduate studies ‘with a strong sense of being bruised and battered by the whole experience’ (Reay 2016b, p70). It is certainly the case that ‘the majority of working-class students are trapped in the present as ‘onlookers’ on studentlife’ (Reay 2017, p125).
Building that sense of belonging is important throughout the entire studentlife cycle.
