To wrap up the year, this editorial post celebrates the top ten viewed Teaching Matters blog posts in 2018. Look out for a Student Wellbeing Teaching Matters mini-series in July and August 2019. This was a big step in students taking control of their own learning and project managing with many different stakeholders. This whole assessment process is simple to manage and assess, with only about 35 reports covering the whole class of 200+ students. The pathways model aims to promote experiential learning , encourage reflection and highlight the importance of interdisciplinary learning to students when engaging in sustainability issues. In September 2018, we launched two pathways, with one framed around the Sustainable Development Goals, and the other on Climate Change.

While we recognise the benefits of this initiative for our own students, we are also aware that we need to offer them more support. Starting from September 2018, students can take this previously extra-curricular activity as a university course, gaining academic credit to formally recognise their learning.
By combining these skills with scientific rigour and a passion for their discipline, students create unique outreach products and earn valuable experience in community engagement and project management.
