I came into this programme as a mentor, along with Julie Dickson from the R(D)SVS, when the first cohort of UCVME students were nearing completion of their degrees (and their UCVME certificates) and were writing their AFHEA submissions. I am consistently inspired by what happens when we allow our students to take the reins in teaching.

Joël Reland Joël graduated from Edinburgh in 2017 with an MSc in International Political Theory. Whilst writing her postgraduate dissertation on the ethics of the Anthropocene, she completed a traineeship at the International Center for Climate Governance in Venice, Italy.
But attending the first ever GCB Awards Ceremony Night in 2017 gave me an opportunity to take a minute and look back at how much we had all achieved throughout this course. Dasha did Global Challenges For Business course in Autumn 2017, and found it very useful and impactful. Previously she attended The King Alfred School in London.

I also now appreciate the importance of studentsengaging in thinking about their future careers as early as possible. Jan 10, 2017 It wasn’t that I was wrong in my approach before, but I didn’t really grasp that the twin concerns of academic performance and career aspiration could be interconnected.
The Certificate facilitates educational skills development through Peer Assisted Learning and other teaching activities and enhances employability skills amongst graduates. The programme started in 2014 and there are now 115 students enrolled with the first cohort due to successfully complete their Certificate in May 2017.
We introduced the UCVME in 2014 as we wanted to formally recognise the important role our students play in our teaching and learning processes. We have had over 140 students enrol on the programme and, so far, 22 have completed the programme in 2017, and 35 in 2018. I was really surprised how much I enjoyed the trip.

I was therefore keen to play a role in developing another online, interdisciplinary course based on my experiences and interests (for example, as is shared in this video that showcases part of the senate talk on research led-learning in May 2017), in addition to the numerous skills and networks I would gain and contribute to.
