As the REF puts it we should be “illustrating the benefits research delivers beyond academia, including how it brings tangible changes to aspects of society and life, and the public value it delivers”. Now, in the third year, all staff including support staff are in mixed research teams as part of their professional development.

The Knowledge Exchange Framework is now the responsibility of Research England within UKRI.It target’ and also to ‘tackle challenges such as levelling up prosperity across the country’, as Amanda Solloway, then Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, put in her Foreword in 2020. Funding for them may be uncertain.
