This moment inspired Joshua Jackson and Dayshawn Louden, then student leaders at Compton College, to begin campaigning and advocating for studenthousing and increased basic needs on campus. Their next step was to identify Compton College students who identified as homeless. We took it upon ourselves, says Louden.
The school ultimately became a satellite campus of the El Camino Community College District in 2006 but has since regained its accreditation and its independence. In collaboration with the Los Angeles County Food Bank, Compton College offers a mobile food pantry.
