The Dr. John Hope Franklin Award was created in 2004 to pay tribute to Franklin, a historian, writer, educator, and humanitarian who made significant contributions to shaping the perspective of American history in the 20th century. Jackson did that by co-founding the Black StudentUnion. The Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D.
Student committees lead this biggest annual event on campus, and groups of students from societies or classes participate in it by organising concerts, food stalls, exhibitions, poster presentations, demonstrations or performances. This is the cultural event of the students, by the students, for the students.
