The mission of Excelencia in Education, founded in 2004 by Dr. Deborah A. Brown, is to advance Latino student success in higher education by promoting Latino student achievement, conducting analysis to inform educational policies and advancing institutional practices. Approximately 70% of the student body identifies as Latinx.
Programs for this population of students, which vary in length and scope, have grown dramatically since 2004, when an informal survey found about 25 programs nationally, according to the Think College National Coordinating Center, which offers support to postsecondary programs for students with intellectual disabilities.
